Alexandria court decided to hold Abeer El-Safti in custody until November 22 to reconsider her appeal in case 45/2018.

Abeer had been sentenced in-absentia for one year in this case on March 7, 2017 as she was charged with protesting and violence.

She was arrested on January 2, 2017 because she was holding a sign saying “Tiran and Sanafir are Egyptian” in Mahatet El Raml, Alexandria, opposing to the Egyptian government’s decision to cede the two islands to Saudi Arabia. Then, she was released in a 1,000 LE bail on January 4, 2017.

It is worth noting that Giza Criminal Court had ordered the conditional release of El-Safti pending case 718/2018 on October 10, 2018. In this case, known as “Metro protests” Abeer is charged with calling for and participating in unauthorized protests objecting to the latest increase in Cairo Metro’s fare.
