Pretrial Detention of Activist Shady El-Ghazaly Harb Extended for 45 Days

Giza Criminal Court extended On Tuesday the pretrial detention of activist Shady El-Ghazaly Harb for 45 days pending investigations in case 621/2018 State Security.

Harb is charged with joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and calling for terrorist acts. His prosecution started based on a statement, filed by the pro-state lawyer Ashraf Farahat, against Harb. In the statement, Farahat attached hard copies of Harb’s Tweets commenting on different events including ceding the Egyptian Tiran and Sanafir islands to Saudi Arabia, donating over 1,000 Km of Sinai to a Saudi mega-project, and the Egyptian-Israeli gas exchange deal.

 Farahat is known for his strong legal and political support of the ceding agreement. Additionally, he has previously filed similar statements against artists such as, the recent complain against singer Ahmed Saad based on a song Saad published after the latest increase in gas prices.

North Cairo Criminal Court refused activist Shady El-Ghazaly Harb’s appeal on the extension of his remand for 45 days yesterday.

Harb has been remanded since May pending case 621/2018. He is accused of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and calling for terrorist acts.

His prosecution started based on a statement, filed by the pro-state lawyer Ashraf Farahat, against Harb. In the statement, Farahat attached hard copies of Harb’s Tweets commenting on different events including ceding the Egyptian Tiran and Sanafir islands to Saudi Arabia, donating over 1,000 Km of Sinai to a Saudi mega-project, and the Egyptian-Israeli gas exchange deal.

Remand of activist Shady El-Ghazaly Harb was extended for 45 days pending investigations in case 621/2018 State Security, as per the mandate of chamber 28 of South Cairo Criminal.

Harb is accused of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and calling for terrorist acts. His prosecution started based on a statement, filed by the pro-state lawyer Ashraf Farahat, against Harb. After 150 days of pretrial detention, activist Shady El-Ghazaly Harb to be held for another 45 days pending investigations in case 621/2018 State Security, as per the mandate of chamber 14 of Giza Criminal Court.

Harb is accused of joining a terrorist group, publishing false news, and calling for terrorist acts. His prosecution started based on a statement, filed by the pro-state lawyer Ashraf Farahat, against him.
