After four years in pretrial detention; Sameh Ramadan Saudi’s release procedures under the guarantee of his residence finalized

On May 30, the prison administration finalized Sameh Ramadan Saudi’s release procedures under the guarantee of his residence, in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

The decision to release Saudi comes after being in pretrial detention for four years pending three different cases since his arrest in 2018, on charges of joining a terrorist group.

Today, the Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to release Sameh Ramadan Saudi, in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

Saudi faced charges of joining a terrorist group, after his arrest in 2018 and rotated into three different cases. 

11 April 2022

On April 11 hearing, The Criminal Court (Fifth Terrorism Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Sameh Saudi for 45 days in connection with investigations of lawsuit No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security). The third lawsuit Saudi has been charged in.

After his arrest, Saudi was first listed in lawsuit No. 1305 of 2018 till a decision was issued to replace his pretrial detention with one of the precautionary measures. During the precautionary measures period, he was investigated in a new lawsuit No. 1338 of 2019. He remained in pretrial detention until he was rotated in the current lawsuit. Saudi faces charges of joining a terrorist group.

8 March 2022 “Criminal Court renews Sameh Saudi’s detention for 45 days pending his third case”

On Tuesday, March 8, The Criminal Court (The 3rd Terrorism Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Sameh Saudi for 45 days in connection with investigations of Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

Notably, Saudi was first charged in connection with Case No. 1305 of 2018 till a decision was issued to replace his pretrial detention with one of the precautionary measures, and during the precautionary measures period, he was investigated in a new case No. 1338 of 2019. He remained in pretrial detention until he was rotated in connection with the current case on charges of joining a terrorist group.

26 January 2022

On Wednesday, The Criminal Court decided to renew the detention of both Mohamed Oxygen and Sameh Saudi for 45 days pending investigations of Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security). On a charge of joining a terrorist group.

The current case is the third for Oxygen and Saudi after their release orders in connection with other cases were issued but weren’t implemented, and rotating them in connection with the current case.

It should be noted that the Emergency State Security Misdemeanor Court issued a four-year prison sentence to Oxygen in connection with Case No. 1228 of 2021 (Emergency State Security Misdemeanor The Fifth Settlement) on a charge of spreading false news domestically and abroad.

20 December 2021

Today, The Emergency State Security Misdemeanor Court issued a four-year prison sentence to journalist and blogger Mohamed Ibrahim Radwan, known as “Oxygen.”

This came in connection with Case No. 1228 of 2021 (Emergency State Security Misdemeanor The Fifth Settlement), where Oxygen is charged with spreading false news domestically and abroad, which is one of the charges copied from Case No. 1356 of 2019.

It should be noted that both human rights activist Alaa Abdel-Fatah and Human rights lawyer Mohamed Al-Baker were tried in connection with the same case, The Court sentenced Abdel-Fatah to a five-year prison sentence, and Al-Baker was sentenced to a four-year prison sentence.

12 December 2021

On Sunday, December 12, The Criminal Court (The Fifth Circuit Criminal/ Terrorism) decided to renew the detention of both Mohamed Oxygen and Sameh Saudi for 45 days, in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

Notably, both defendants were rotated in connection with the current case, after their release orders were issued in connection with other cases. The Public Prosecution also referred Oxygen to exceptional trial before The State Security Emergency Court in connection with a new case.

8 November 2021 

On Monday, November 4, The Emergency State Security Court decided to set lawsuit No. 1228 of 2021 (Emergency State Security Misdemeanor The Fifth Settlement), in which Mohamed Oxygen is accused of spreading false news domestically and abroad, for adjudication to the December 20 session.

It is worth noting that the Emergency State Security Court didn’t respond to any of Oxygen’s defense requests to authorize the defense to obtain a copy of the lawsuit papers and to combine the cases in which Oxygen was previously accused, Also, no defense pleadings were presented for the defendant.

It’s noteworthy that Oxygen is still in pretrial detention in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

2 November 2021 

Tuesday, November 2, The Criminal Court (The Second Circuit Terrorism) decided to renew the detention of Mohamed Ebrahim Radwan aka Oxygen, and Sameh Ramadan Saudi, for 45 days pending Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

Notably, The Public Prosecution referred Oxygen to the Emergency State Security Misdemeanor Court in connection with Case No. 1228 of 2021 (The Fifth Settlement Emergency State Security Misdemeanor) on a charge of spreading false news. Also, he’s still in pretrial detention pending the above-mentioned case.

Both defendants face charges of joining a terrorist group.

1 November 2021 

Today, the Emergency State Security Misdemeanor Court decided to adjourn the trial session of Mohamed Ibrahim, aka Oxygen, to November 8th, pending the defense’s access to the lawsuit papers.

This came pending Case No. 1228 of 2021 (The Fifth Settlement Emergency State Security Misdemeanor), on charges of spreading false news domestically and abroad, which is one of the accusations attributed to Oxygen in connection with Case No. 1356 of 2019 (State Security prosecution), Although he was previously released pending the case mentioned above, by a decision issued by the Criminal Court last November.

It’s noteworthy that Oxygen is still in pretrial detention pending Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

18 October 2021 

Yesterday, Emergency State Security Misdemeanor Court adjourned the trial session of Mohamed Oxygen to November 1st session, pending the defense’s access to the lawsuit papers. This came in connection with Lawsuit No. 1228 of 2021 (Emergency State Security Misdemeanor The Fifth Settlement).

The first court session was scheduled to be held yesterday, according to the decision issued by the Public Prosecution to refer Oxygen and other activists to the exceptional trial, on charges of spreading false news domestically and abroad, which is one of the accusations attributed to Oxygen in connection with Case No. 1356 of 2019 (State Security prosecution), Although he was previously released pending the case mentioned above, by a decision issued by the Criminal Court last November.

The Emergency State Security Misdemeanor Court is an exceptional judicial institution whose verdicts cannot be appealed according to the emergency law. However, The defendant is still in pretrial detention pending Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

The owner of the Oxygen Egypt blog was arrested on April 6, 2018, in connection with Case 621 of 2018. A series of violations against him started, from arbitrary detention and rotation pending other cases, through the continuous renewal of his pretrial detention and the arbitrariness of preventing his family from visiting him and ending with the exceptional trial.

5 October 2021 

Tuesday, October 5, The Criminal Court (The Second Circuit Criminal Terrorism) considered the detention order of both “Mohamed Oxygen” and “Sameh Saudi” and ordered to extend it for 45 days. This came pending Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).

Last August, The Supreme State Security Prosecution resumed its investigations with “Oxygen,” in connection with case No. 1356 of 2019, in which he was previously released, with the exact previous charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.

And a few months ago, “Oxygen” attempted to end his life inside his prison cell in Tura prison out of the violations practiced against him, the continuous renewal of his pretrial detention, and the arbitrariness of preventing his family from visiting him for a period exceeding 15 months, and his life was saved at the last moments.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution had resumed its investigations with blogger “Mohamad Radwan Mohamad Ebrahim” aka “Oxygen”, on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, pending case No. 1356 of 2019, the same case in which he was previously released, with the same previous charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.

A few weeks ago, “Oxygen” attempted to end his life inside his prison cell in Tura prison out of the violations practiced against him, the continuous renewal of his pretrial detention, and the arbitrariness of preventing his family from visiting him for a period exceeding 15 months, and his life was saved at the last moments.

The owner of “Oxygen Masr” blog was arrested on April 6, 2018, pending case No. 621 of 2018, and a series of recycling in new cases had begun, first of them was case No. 1356 of 2019 after a decision was issued to release him, he was investigated again in case No. 855 of 2020.
