Mohamed Abdel Qader, the uncle of potential presidential candidate Ahmed El-Tantawy, released on 5,000 EGP bail

Today, the Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to release Mohamed Sayed Abdel Qader, the uncle of former MP and potential presidential candidate Ahmed El-Tantawy, on bail of 5 thousand Egyptian Pounds. 

Abdel Qader was arrested from his house on May 2, coinciding with the arrest of El-Tantawy’s other uncle and some of his friends and supporters. The police force that arrested him claimed that it seized several exhibits, which Abdel Qader denied his connection or ownership of; the exhibits were 70 publications inciting demonstrations because it says, “prepare for Ahmed El-Tantawy’s return in Egypt, if it is not with goodness it’ll be with force,” and 20 fireworks.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution accused him of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, committing the crime of financing a terrorist group by funding it to carry out its purposes, and Possessing explosives before obtaining a permit.

At yesterday’s hearing of May 4, the Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to detain Mohamed Sayed Abdel Qader, the uncle of former MP Ahmed El-Tantawy, who announced his intention to run for the next presidential elections, for 15 days pending investigations of case No. 2397 of 2021 (Supreme State Security).
The Security forces arrested Abdel Qader on Tuesday, the 2nd of May. El-Tantawy stated yesterday that his uncle and several of his closest friends were also arrested, coinciding with the approach of the date El-Tantawy announced to arrive in Egypt from Lebanon on May 6.
The prosecution investigated Abdel Qader regarding several documents allegedly seized from his house of 70 publications inciting demonstrations because it says, “prepare for Ahmed El-Tantawy’s return in Egypt, if it is not with goodness it’ll be with force,” 20 fireworks. Abdel Qader denied his ownership of the seized objects. He was accused of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, committing the crime of financing a terrorist group by funding it to carry out its purposes and Possessing explosives before obtaining a permit.
Abdel Qader mentioned during his interrogations that he suffers from several serious health problems, having three liver cancer foci in the liver, which he underwent previous operations, and chronic inflammation of the stomach and nerves, in addition to polio in his right hand.
