During the previous month, the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE) monitored the state and problems of freedom of thought and expression in Egypt. Through its various units’ activities, AFTE issued statements that take a deeper look at some of the issues of freedom of thought and expression currently raised and provided legal aid in cases related to freedom of thoughts and expression.<\/p>\n

AFTE issued the following statement during last month:
\nA statement titled Egypt: Quash Verdicts and Stop Unfair Trials by Emergency Courts<\/a>, where AFTE and the undersigned organizations call on Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi to immediately quash the verdicts against seven arbitrarily detained human rights defenders, activists and politicians<\/p>\n

\n– Criminal Court orders to renew the detention of Quranist blogger Reda Abdel-Rahman<\/a> for 45 days
\n– Zagazig Misdemeanors Court of Appeal acquits Amr Socrates <\/a>
\n– Hearing of two lawsuits demanding that Ahmed Doma and Omar Mohamed Ali<\/a> remotely resume their studies digitally adjourned to February 6
\n– disciplinary hearing of Dr. Manar Al-Tantawy<\/a> adjourned to February 2
\n– Hearing of appeal against the refusal to grant Dr. Manar Al-Tantawi<\/a> her professorship adjourned to February 21
\n– Disciplinary lawsuits against Ayman Mansour Nada<\/a> scheduled for February 17 for adjudication
\n– Trail session of Haneen Hossam<\/a> on human trafficking adjourned to February 21
\n– Criminal Court sets the date of lawsuit against Ayman Mansour Nada<\/a> for adjudication to March 31 session
\n– Criminal Court orders to renew the detention of Mohamed Oxygen and Sameh Saudi<\/a> for 45 days
