{"id":31236,"date":"2022-07-03T15:45:42","date_gmt":"2022-07-03T13:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/afteegypt.org\/?p=31236"},"modified":"2022-08-01T16:19:56","modified_gmt":"2022-08-01T14:19:56","slug":"aftes-weekly-legal-bulletin-26-june-3-july-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afteegypt.org\/en\/legal-updates-en\/weekly-legal-bulletin-en-2\/2022\/07\/03\/31236-afteegypt.html","title":{"rendered":"AFTE\u2019s weekly legal bulletin (26 June &#8211; 3 July 2022)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The detention of four defendants renewed, another released; <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>disciplinary lawsuit of Manar Al-Tantawy to be adjudicated on 26 July<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong><span style=\"background-color: #800000;\">Criminal Courts<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">26 June hearings:<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The Criminal Court renewed the detention of Hamed Sedeek for 45 days in connection with Case No. 1356 of 2019 (Supreme State Security), in which he has been detained for more than two years and a half.<\/p>\n<p>Sedeek was arrested on 23 September 2019 on charges of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media.<\/p>\n<p>The Criminal Court also renewed the detention of Belal Abdel Razek for 45 days in connection with Case No. 488 of 2019 (Supreme State Security Prosecution), in which he has been detained for more than three years.<\/p>\n<p>Abdel Razek was arrested for his participation in a protest in Alexandria. He faces charges of joining a terrorist group and promoting its goals, spreading false news, and misusing social media to achieve that goal.<\/p>\n<p>On 29 June, the Criminal Court renewed the detention of Mohamed Mamdouh Abdel Halim for 45 days in connection with his second Case No. 855 of 2020 (Supreme State Security).<\/p>\n<p>Abdel Halim faces charges of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong><span style=\"background-color: #800000;\">The Supreme State Security Prosecution<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>On 26 June, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Wessam Salah for 15 days in connection with Case No. 93 of 2022 (Supreme State Security Prosecution).<\/p>\n<p>Salah was arrested from his home in Sidi Bishr in Alexandria governorate on 20 January. He appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution for the first time on 14 March, facing charges of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and using a social media account to spread false news and statements.<\/p>\n<p>On 29 June, the Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to annul the precautionary measures imposed on Ahmed Abdel-Aal Fazaa, in connection with Case No. 915 of 2021 (Supreme State Security Prosecution). The court released him under the guarantee of his place of residence.<\/p>\n<p>Fazaa was arrested in August 2021 on charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong><span style=\"background-color: #800000;\">State Council Courts<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>On 26 June, the Administrative Judiciary Court (The Sixth Circuit) adjourned to 17 July the examination of appeal No. 57029 of 74 filed by AFTE on behalf of student Omar Mohamed Ali against both the Minister of Education and the dean of Thebes Higher Institute of Engineering in their capacity, over the decision to dismiss Ali from the institute.<\/p>\n<p>The court adjourned the examination of the appeal to allow the student\u2019s defence lawyer to submit a document stating that he is imprisoned in connection with Case No. 174 of 2015 and to notify the second appellant, the Thebes Higher Institute, that its representative should attend the hearings. The appeal was filed after the student submitted more than a request to the institute\u2019s administration to allow him to resume his studies inside his prison cell. However, his requests were rejected and later the institute dismissed him permanently for dropping out of his studies.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"background-color: #800000; color: #ffffff;\"><strong>University Disciplinary Hearings<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>On 28 June, the Disciplinary Board of the Teaching Staff at the Higher Technological Institute in the 10th of Ramadan City set 26 July to adjudicate disciplinary lawsuit No. 18 of 2021 filed against Manar Al-Tantawy, while allowing Al-Tantawy\u2019s lawyer to submit defence memoranda on her behalf on a hearing slated for 19 July.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Tantawy faces charges of insulting the Higher Technological Institute in the 10th of Ramadan City and its dean via social media and some satellite channels, against the backdrop of the dean\u2019s refusal to allow her to resume her official position as the head of the Mechanical Engineering Department for political reasons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/afteegypt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/3-July.pdf\"><strong>View in PDF<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The detention of four defendants renewed, another released;
