For the second time, Nasr City Prosecution dismissed the request that AFTE filed last month demanding to reopen the investigation into the death incident of the economic researcher Ayman Hadhoud inside the Mental Health Hospital in Abbasiya, which was marred by a lot of ambiguity.<\/span><\/p>\n

In February 2022, Hadhoud was arrested from Zamalek District, Cairo. His family lost contact with him since then, until they were later informed of his death in April, the Ministry of Interior Interior claimed in a subsequent statement after his death that he attempted to break into an apartment, and the building guard reported him to the police, and afterwards his family was unofficially informed that Hudhoud was in Abbasiya Mental Health Hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hospital denied Hadhood\u2019s presence, and even after his death inside the hospital on March 5, his family was not informed of his death until April 11, 35 days after he passed away, during that time, his corpse was kept inside the hospital\u2019s mortuary; to ensure that the features of the body are lost and that the time of death is not clarified.<\/span><\/p>\n

Criminal Court<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

April 5 hearings:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The Criminal Court (First Circuit) renewed the detention of journalist Hamdy Elzaeem for 45 days pending investigations of case No. 955 of 2020 (Supreme State Security Prosecution), In violation of Article 143 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which set two years as the maximum period for pretrial detention.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elzaeem was arrested from his house on January 4, 2021, for his journalistic work. The Prosecution later accused him of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its objectives, spreading false news, and using an account on social media to commit a crime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Similarly, the Criminal Court (First Circuit) renewed El-Hussaini Farghaly\u2019s detention for 45 days in connection with case No. 330 of 2022 (State Security); for posting a video on Youtube about the crisis of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam that threatens Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last April, security forces arrested Farghaly; he was later accused of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and inciting a terrorist act.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Criminal Court (First Circuit) also renewed Ahmed Mohamed Moussa Abdel Khaleq\u2019s detention for 45 days in connection with Case No. 330 of 2022 (State Security).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Supreme State Security Prosecution interrogated Abdel Khaleq for the first time on April 3 and charged him with joining a terrorist group, inciting a terrorist act, and spreading false news.<\/span><\/p>\n

State Council Courts<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

On April 9, the Administrative Judicial Court (Second Circuit) referred AFTE’s appeal against the head of the acting professions syndicate, filed on behalf of Ayman Abdel Moniem Elsayed, to the State Commissioners\u2019 Authority to consult its legal opinion. The Court also decided to examine the appeal on the following July 2 hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n

AFTE filed this appeal, which carried No. 40133 of 77, to challenge the Syndicate\u2019s refusal of Elsayed\u2019s request to join the Syndicate without justification or pointing out the reasons for this refusal. Despite El-Sayed\u2019s fulfillment of all the required conditions that make him qualified for it and the resulting privileges.<\/span><\/p>\n
