{"id":34502,"date":"2023-05-21T14:14:57","date_gmt":"2023-05-21T11:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/afteegypt.org\/?p=34502"},"modified":"2023-05-21T14:14:57","modified_gmt":"2023-05-21T11:14:57","slug":"aftes-weekly-legal-bulletin-14-21-may-2023-the-detention-of-four-defendants-was-renewed-including-chocalata-and-warda-and-activist-wessam-salah-was-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afteegypt.org\/en\/legal-updates-en\/weekly-legal-bulletin-en-2\/2023\/05\/21\/34502-afteegypt.html","title":{"rendered":"AFTE\u2019s Weekly Legal Bulletin (14: 21 May 2023) The detention of four defendants was renewed, including Chocalata and Warda; and activist Wessam Salah was released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><b>Supreme State Security Prosecution\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 14, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Ahmed Tarek Hassanein, known as \u201cChocolata\u201d and Basma Hegazy, known as \u201cWarda,\u201d for 15 days pending investigations of lawsuit No. 184 of 2023 (Supreme State Security).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two content creators were jailed after appearing in a satirical video, titled \u201cthe visit,\u201d featuring a person inside prison for roughshod over a person in power, referred to in the video as \u201cthe governor.\u201d Two other content creators, Mohamed Hossam, and Ahmed Hossam ElKhouly, appeared in the video and were convicted in the same lawsuit and face the same accusations of joining a terrorist group, committing the crime of financing terrorism, spreading false news and information, and using social media accounts to spread false news and information.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 15, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Ahmed Ma\u2019amon Shaker Abou El-Rous and Ali Othman for 15 days, pending investigations of lawsuit No. 508 of 2023 (Supreme State Security).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abou El-Rous and Othman were arrested on April 5 after a football match; Nasr City Prosecution accused them of rioting and assaulting the security forces. Two days later, the Prosecution decided to release them on bail, however; their detention continued instead of being released. And later on, they were brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, which accused them of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, committing the crime of financing a terrorist group, spreading false news and statements that would harm public security and order, using an account on social media to spread the false news and information for a terrorist purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 20, the Supreme State Security Prosecution released the member of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party, Wessam Salah, under the guarantee of his place of residence, pending lawsuit No. 93 of 2022 (Supreme State Security Prosecution).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A security force arrested Salah on January 22 of last year, from his house in Sidi Bishr, Alexandria governorate; later, on March 14, he appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution.
