Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed Hussein, known as the \u201cT-shirt Detainee,\u201d was released after 3 years in prison in case No. 37883 of 2017, Al-Marg Felony, on charges of joining an illegal group and participating in a demonstration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The case date back to January 2014, when Al-Marj police forces arrested him when he was 17 years old, and presented him to the Public Prosecution, which detained him on charges of \u201cjoining a group established in violation of the law, incitement and participation in demonstrations, and possession of explosives,\u201d before he was released in March 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last August, Hussein was arrested from an ambush in Giza Governorate, in implementation of a ruling in absentia issued against him by the Emergency State Security Court in 2018 to life imprisonment, in the current case.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed Hussein, known as the \u201cT-shirt Detainee,\u201d to 3 years in prison in case No. 37883 of 2017, Al-Marg Felony, on charges of joining an illegal group and participating in a demonstration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahmoud Muhammad Ahmed Hussein, known as the \u201cT-shirt Detainee,\u201d arrived at his home on Sunday, May 26, 2024, more than a month after the court decided to release him, before he was unlawfully detained at the Khanka Police Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

On April 23, 2024, the Criminal Court decided to postpone the hearing of Mahmoud\u2019s case until June 26, 2024, and to release him with a financial guarantee of 10,000 pounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

The financial guarantee was paid the day after the decision, but Mahmoud was transferred from one detention center to another at the end of April.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, he was detained in the Khanka department before disappearing in an unknown location, and the department denied his responsibility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

AFTE and Khaled Ali\u2019s Office File Report to Investigate Non-Implementation of Court’s Decision to Release \u201cT-Shirt Detainee\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Foundation for Freedom of Thought and Expression “AFTE”‘s lawyer, in cooperation with Mr. Khaled Ali’s law office, submitted report No. 30041 of 2024 to the prosecutor to investigate the unlawful detention of Mahmoud Muhammad Ahmed Hussein, known as the \u201cT-shirt Detainee,\u201d at the Khanka Police Department and the failure to implement the court’s decision to release him.<\/span><\/p>\n

On April 23, 2024, the Criminal Court decided to postpone the hearing of Mahmoud\u2019s case until June 26, 2024, and to release him with a financial guarantee of 10,000 pounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

The financial guarantee was paid the day after the decision, but at the end of April, Mahmoud was transferred from his Badr 1 Center detention center to the \u201cMay 15 detention point\u201d in Helwan.<\/span><\/p>\n

On May 1, he was transferred to Al-Marj Police Station, where the report on the incident for which Mahmoud was imprisoned was drawn up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This procedure is usually followed when the accused is released with a guarantee of his place of residence, even though Mahmoud was released with a financial guarantee.<\/span><\/p>\n

In another arbitrary measure, the department refused to receive Mahmoud, and he was returned to the Ain Shams Police Department to remain detained there until he was transferred on May 2 to the \u201cMay 15 detention point\u201d again.<\/span><\/p>\n

On May 5, Mahmoud was transferred to the Khanka Police Station, where he resides, and he is still being unlawfully detained there.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahmoud faces a life sentence in absentia on charges of possessing firecrackers. To re-plead the case and oblige the prosecution to submit the original case.<\/span><\/p>\n
