The Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE) shares with you the joint statements it produced over the past month and campaign, in addition to the legal updates of lawsuits in which AFTE provides legal support to prisoners of conscience or to academics who were subjected to abuse and security prosecutions for expressing their opinions.<\/span><\/p>\n

AFTE condemnd the decision by the Third Circuit of the Terrorism Criminal Court to prevent lawyers, including AFTE\u2019s lawyers, from attending sessions with their clients separately. The court\u2019s decision prevented the defense team from communicating with the defendants, thus leading AFTE\u2019s lawyers to withdraw from the hearings, which were held at Badr Rehabilitation and Correctional Center on 25 February.<\/p>\n

AFTE with 17 of civil society organizations, issued a joint statement denouncing the Egyptian authorities and affiliated groups response to recent reporting by the Sinai Foundation for Human Rights, an Egyptian human rights group with a focus on Egypt\u2019s militarized North Sinai, with a smear campaign and threats against the group and its director, Ahmed Salem<\/span>. <\/span>More<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
