{"id":37557,"date":"2024-06-12T13:15:20","date_gmt":"2024-06-12T10:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/afteegypt.org\/?p=37557"},"modified":"2024-06-12T13:15:20","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T10:15:20","slug":"aftes-weekly-legal-bulletin-2-9-june-2024-detention-renewed-for-two-including-a-member-of-students-for-palestine-group-two-others-released-and-aftes-benha-uni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afteegypt.org\/en\/legal-profiles-en\/weekly-legal-bulletin-en-2\/2024\/06\/12\/37557-afteegypt.html","title":{"rendered":"AFTE\u2019s Weekly Legal Bulletin (2: 9 June 2024)| Detention Renewed For Two Including A Member Of \u201cStudents for Palestine\u201d Group; Two Others Released; and AFTE\u2019s Benha University Lawsuit Postponed to 26 August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff; background-color: #800000;\"><b>2 June 2024 Sessions\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><b>Supreme State Security Prosecution<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to renew the detention of Muhammad Mahmoud Sabry Ismail for 15 days pending investigations in Case No. 95 of 2023 Supreme State Security Prosecution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ismail was arrested at the airport while returning to Egypt to visit his family from the UAE, where he works.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ismail was presented to the Supreme State Security Prosecution on May 27, 2024, for investigation and was charged with joining a terrorist group while knowing its purposes, publishing and broadcasting false news and statements that would harm security and public order, and using an account on social media for the purpose of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #800000; color: #ffffff;\"><b>3 June 2024 Sessions\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><b>Supreme State Security Prosecution<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The State Security Prosecution decided to renew Zyad Muhammad Ahmed Al-Basiouny&#8217;s detention for 15 days pending investigations in Case No. 1941 of 2024 State Security on charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was arrested due to his participation in writing a statement on behalf of the \u201cStudents for Palestine\u201d group demanding facilitating the Joining of Palestinian students in Egypt to study and exempting them from expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On April 30, Al-Basyouny attended a meeting with other students to discuss the situation in Palestine. They also established a student group that supported Palestine in all Egyptian universities, and they chose the name \u201cStudents for Palestine\u201d for their group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al-Basyouny was arrested from his home at dawn on May 9, disappeared in an unknown location, and was interrogated regarding his family\u2019s political activity, as well as his student activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The group also issued a statement in which they called on the Ministry of Higher Education to ban products that support the Israeli occupation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al-Basyouny is a 20-year-old student at the Acting Institute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><b>Administrative Court<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Administrative Court in Qalyubia postponed hearing the appeal of AFTE at the State Council court in Benha City on behalf of Nada Osama Abdel-Mughni against the Faculty of Arts at Benha University due to the negative decision to refrain from appointing her as a teaching assistant at the college, despite her eligibility, until the 26 August session.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The court allowed the correction of the form of lawsuit No. 7026 of the 11th judicial year by adding a request to appeal the five-year plan for appointing teaching assistants at the Faculty of Arts, Benha University (Media Department).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #800000; color: #ffffff;\"><b>6 June 2024<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>State Security Prosecution<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The State Security Prosecution decided to release Islam Ramadan Kamel and Muhammad Mustafa Abdel Qader nearly two years after they were arrested and detained pending investigations in Case No. 1893 of 2022 (Supreme State Security Investigation).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Police forces arrested both in November 2022 because they shared their political opinions on social media.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2 June 2024 Sessions\u00a0 Supreme State Security Prosecution The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to renew the detention of Muhammad Mahmoud Sabry Ismail for 15 days pending investigations in Case No. 95 of 2023 Supreme State Security Prosecution.
