The Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE) monitors and documents violations in these domains. It also provides legal aid to the victims of these violations through its lawyers at the legal aid unit. The report also reviews and analyzes the patterns of violations that were monitored and documented during the period from 1 July to 30 September 2024, according to AFTE’s monitoring and documentation methodology. More.

Joint statements

The Egyptian government must immediately lift the arbitrary travel bans and asset freezes imposed upon three directors of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR), a prominent Egyptian human rights organization, solely for their legitimate human rights work, a coalition of 34 rights groups said today, four years after the men were released from prison following an international outcry at their persecution. More.

AFTE and 16 Human rights organizations condemn in the strongest terms the harsh and unjust sentences issued by a military court on Saturday, December 14, 2024, against 62 civilians from North Sinai, including tribal leaders, activists, and journalists. These sentences—ranging from 3 to 10 years of imprisonment—stem from calls for largely peaceful protests demanding the right to return to their lands from which they were forcibly displaced. These verdicts, issued in Case No. 80 of 2023 by the Ismailia Military Court, mark a significant escalation in the Egyptian authorities’ policies towards forcibly displaced residents. These policies continue to disregard human rights, first and foremost, the right to return to their lands and the right to a fair trial before an ordinary court, away from exceptional courts that lack fundamental guarantees of justice. More.
