On September 16, 2024, a police force arrested journalist Ahmed Mohamed Mostafa Bayoumy, known as “Ahmed Bayoumy,” at dawn from his home on Faisal Street in Giza Governorate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bayoumy was forcibly disappeared for at least 47 days, during which neither his whereabouts nor the reasons for his detention were disclosed. He later appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution in Fifth Settlement as a defendant in Case No. 5053 of 2024, facing charges including joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his disappearance, the family sent telegrams to the Public Prosecutor inquiring about Bayoumy’s whereabouts, but to no avail. Additionally, the head of the Journalists’ Syndicate, Khaled El-Balshy, filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor demanding information about Bayoumy\u2019s location and calling for his release, but no action was taken.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bayoumy had been an active journalist before his arrest, covering news related to arts and culture. He worked with the news website Eram and previously with Al-Diyar.<\/span><\/p>\n
