The Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE) announces that it starts applying the anti-sexual violence policy today “15 April 2021”. This comes after a series of discussions and interviews that an expert in gender issues conducted with AFTE staff over the past months. It also comes after reviewing similar policies issued by civil society organizations at both the national and international levels.
The process of drafting the new policy aimed at building internal awareness and consensus on gender-related issues and the protection of women. AFTE’s Advisory Board of Trustees has reviewed and approved the policy, as part of its role in reviewing the organization’s internal policies.
On the “About the Association” page on its website, AFTE publishes the text of the anti-sexual violence policy in both Arabic and English. It also dedicates an email address to receive complaints in this regard.
AFTE administration reaffirms its commitment to providing a safe work environment for all male and female staff members, as well as for the target groups. It vows to continue working to raise awareness of all aspects related to the respect of private space and understanding of gender issues and professional conduct.
AFTE administration hopes that this step will help in acknowledging mistakes and ensuring reparation in the event that any of these violations are committed. It also hopes that this will encourage more human rights organizations to adopt anti-sexual violence policies.
