The Journalist Mai Al-Sabagh and the photojournalist Ahmed Mostafa to be released

East Alexandria Court has decided the release of the journalist Mai Al-Sabagh and the photojournalist Ahmed Mostafa with 1000 and 2000 EGP fine respectively. The two defendant had been charged with joining an illegally founded group and spreding false news in lawsuit number 5768/2018.
Police forces had arrested the journalists while filming a report on the tram of Alexandria as a heritage that lived for over than 150 years.

“Defense attorney of the journalist were shocked by the summoning of the Mai by AL-Atareen prosecution, without prior notice.” said the defendant’s journalist Mohammed Hafez. “Although the he National Security officer, who had investigated Mai had stated that she doesn’t belong to any terrorist groups nor political movements, the prosecution ordered the detention of the journalist on the ground of joining an illegally founded group that aims for dismantling the constitution and the law by using terrorism, lawsuit number 5768/2018.

Al-Attareen Prosecution in Alexandria has ordered the detention of -the Emeriti newspaper- Al-Bayan’s journalist Mai Saeed Al-Sabagh, and the photo journalist Ahmed Mustafa, 15 days, pending investigation. The defendants are charged with joining an illegally founded group that aims for dismantling the constitution and the law, spreading false news in order to disturb the public order, topple the system and harm the interests of the state, receiving foreign funds, and practicing journalism without a license.

Police forces have arrested the journalists while filming a report on the tram of Alexandria as a heritage that lived for over than 150 years.

“Cheif prosecutor of Al-Atareen refused to give us the official papers of the case” said the attorney of the defendants Mohamed Hafez. He continued “after that I went to General East Alexandria Prosecution, who also refused to hand me any copies of the papers, without stating any reason”.
