Karmoz Photojournalist Acquitted from Charges in Revolution Third Anniversary Protest Case

Alexandria Criminal Court had acquitted Karmoz’s photojournalist Ahmed Fouad, along with nine other defendants, from all charges in case that dates back to 25 January revolution’s third anniversary.

The defendants were sentenced in-absentia to three years in prison, three years of judiciary monitoring, and a fine of EGP 100,000. Then the verdict was appealed and the defendant were retried.

Fouad was arrested while covering demonstration commemorating the third anniversary of 25 January 2011 revolution, as per the evidence provided by Fouad’s lawyer. However, the national security’s investigations state that the defendant was one of the demonstration participants and organizers.

The photojournalist and the nine other defendants are facing the charges of joining a group that aims to disrupt the law, demonstrating without permission, blocking the road, and possessing weapon.
