The pretrial detention of five defendants renewed 

 

Criminal Courts 

On 7 August, the Criminal Court renewed the detention of Belal Abdel Razek for 45 days in connection with Case No. 488 of 2019 (Supreme State Security Prosecution), although he has exceeded the legal period of pretrial detention. 

Security forces arrested Abdel Razek on 1 March 2019 for his participation in a protest back then. He faces charges of joining a terrorist group, promoting its goals, spreading false news, and misusing social media.

The Criminal Court also renewed the detention of both Ahmed Adel Sultan and Fahmy Mohamed Mahmoud for 45 days in connection with Case No. 1480 of 2019 (Supreme State Security). Sultan and Mahmoud face charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.

 

Supreme State Security Prosecution 

On 7 August, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of El-Husseini Farghaly for 15 days in connection with Case No. 330 of 2022 (State Security).

Farghaly faces charges of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and inciting a terrorist act, against the backdrop of posting videos on his YouTube channel discussing the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue.

 

On 8 August, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Ahmed Ashry Elsayed, the brother of Ashraf Ashry who is also listed in the same case, for 15 days in connection with Case No. 440 of 2022 (Supreme State Security).

Security forces arrested Ashry on 12 July for participating in a simulation video on TikTok. Ashry faces charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.
