Supreme State Security Prosecution

December 4 hearings: 

 

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Hussein Shehata, and  Ahmed Fayez Abdel Majid for 15 days, in connection with case No. 2070 of 2022 (Supreme State Security). 

 

Security forces arrested Abdel Majid on November 9; after publishing a post on his Facebook profile about activist Alaa Abdel Fatah being forced to end his hunger strike, while Shehata was arrested after publishing a post about price hikes and called to participate in November 11 demonstrations. Both of them face charges of joining and financing a terrorist group, participating in a criminal agreement aiming to commit a terrorist act, using social media to commit a terrorist act, and inciting to commit a terrorist act. 

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed lawyer Ahmed Nazeer El-Helw’s detention for 15 days in connection with case No. 1940 of 2022 (Supreme State Security Prosecution). 

El-Helw was arrested on November 7, from his house in the fifth settlement district, based on a detention order issued by the Public Prosecution; he appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on November 13; El-Helw was charged with joining a terrorist group.

Similarly, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed worker Mohamed Raafat Nasr’s detention for 15 days in connection with case No. 1977 of 2022 (Supreme State Security). 

Security forces arrested Nasr on November 2; he was interrogated before the prosecution on November 7; he’s charged with joining a terrorist group, committing the crime of financing terrorism, using social media to call for a terrorist act, participating in a criminal agreement intended to commit a terrorist crime, incitement to commit a terrorist crime, publishing and spreading false news and information. 

 

On December 5, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Mohamed Mahmoud Abou Mandour -40 years old and works as an employee at a food production company- for 15 days in connection with case No. 2216 of 2022 (State Security).

Security forces arrested Abou Mandour on November 10; he appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution after 13 days of illegal detention; the investigation authorities interrogated him regarding several posts on Facebook, and Abou Mandour denied his ownership of the publishing account. He faces charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, committing the crime of financing terrorism, inciting to commit a terrorist act, spreading false news and information that would disturb public peace and order, and using an account on social media to commit a terrorist crime. 

 

December 6 hearings: 

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of visual artist Amir Abdel Ghani for 15 days in connection with Case No. 1635 of 2022 (Supreme State Security).

Abdel Ghani was arrested on September 10, and security forces who arrested him led him to an unknown location to his family and lawyers for nine days till he appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, which in turn, charged him with joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, spreading false news and informations that would harm public peace and order, and using a social media account to spread false news and informations.

 

The Supreme State Security Prosecution also renewed the detention of Ziad Abo El-Fadl, Khaled Abdel Mohsen, Mohamed Abou Elaal Abou Eldahab, and Ahmed Abou Elsoud Tawfiq for 15 days in connection with investigations of case No. 2094 of 2022 (Supreme State Security). 

Security forces arrested the four defendants at close times in November. The four are charged with joining a terrorist group, committing the crime of financing terrorism, using social media to promote a terrorist act, participating in a criminal agreement to commit a terrorist crime (demonstrations), inciting to commit a terrorist crime (demonstrations), and spreading false news and informations.

 

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed Momtaz Ahmed Lotfy’s detention for 15 days in connection with case No. 1539 of 2022 (State Security). 

Security forces arrested Lotfy on August 21 from his house in Zagazig City against the backdrop of publishing a video about the Gamasa Prison fire, despite posting a denial of the news afterward. The Supreme State Security Prosecution interrogated him for the first time on September 5 and charged him with joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media.
