After more than two years in pretrial detention; Ahmed Maher Ezzat “Rigo” released under guarantee of his place of residence

On September 8, the Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to release Ahmed Maher Ezzat, known as “Rigo,” under the guarantee of his place of residence, in connection with his second case, No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security.

Ezzat was arrested from his workplace in May 2020, pending a different case; after his release, he was rotated into the second case till the Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to release him after two years in pretrial detention.

Ezzat faced charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news.

28 August 2022 “Criminal Court renews Ahmed Maher Ezzat’s detention for 45 days pending his second case” 

On August 28, The Criminal Court (Third Terrorism Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Ahmed Maher Ezzat, known as “Rigo,” for 45 days in connection with his second case No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security.

In May 2020, security forces arrested Ezzat from his workplace; he was first listed in case No. 586 of 2020 Supreme State Security, after a period of pretrial detention; the Criminal Court decided to release him; however, he was listed again in the current case. Ezzat faces charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news.

21 August 2022 “Criminal Court adjourns Ahmed Maher Ezzat’s detention hearing to August 28” 

On August 21, The Criminal Court (Second Terrorism Circuit) decided to adjourn to August 28 the hearing of the detention order of Ahmed Maher Ezzat in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security.

In May 2020, Ezzat was arrested from his workplace pending a different case; the Criminal Court decided to release him, but the decision wasn’t executed, and he was rotated into the current case against charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news. The exact charges he faced in the first case. 

 

30 May 2022 “Criminal Court renews Ahmed Maher Ezzat Rigo’s detention pending his second case” 

Yesterday, The Criminal Court (Third Terrorism Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Ahmed Maher Ezzat, known as “Rigo,” for 45 days in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security. The second case in which Ezzat is involved in since his arrest.

Ezzat was arrested from his workplace in May 2020, and after being detained in connection with Case No. 586 of 2020 Supreme State Security, the Criminal Court decided to release him, however, he was rotated into the current case with charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news. The same charges he faced in the first case.

11 April 2022 “Criminal Court renews Ahmed Maher Ezzat’s detention pending his second lawsuit”

On April 11 hearing, The Criminal Court (Fifth Terrorism Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Ahmed Maher Ezzat, known as “Rigo,” for 45 days in connection with lawsuit No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security.

Security forces arrested Rigo from his workplace in May 2020; he was first listed in lawsuit No. 586 of 2020 Supreme State Security; later, the Criminal Court decided to release him, but the decision wasn’t executed, and he was rotated in the current lawsuit on charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news.

Last month, AFTE filed reports to the attorney general, the Head of the Community Protection Sector at the Ministry of Interior, the Warden of Qanater Prison for men, and the Head of the National Council for Human Rights regarding Rigo being physically assaulted by prisoners working under the prison administration, with Tura’s prison administration knowledge about the assault without interfering to stop it.

19 March 2022 “AFTE files reports on Ahmed Maher Ezzat’s assault incident”

Yesterday, the defense panel of Ahmed Maher Ezzat, known as “Rigo” pretrial detainee in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security, filed reports to the attorney general, the Head of the Community Protection Sector at the Ministry of Interior, the Warden of Qanater Prison for men, and the Head of the National Council for Human Rights on being physically assaulted by prisoners working under the prison administration, with Tura’s prison administration knowledge about the assault without interfering to stop it.

This came against the backdrop of Rigo’s decision to go on a hunger strike and his refusal to receive prison food; In protest of his continued pretrial detention since 2020, the Tora prison administration decided to transfer him to Qanater Men Prison as a punishment for entering into a hunger strike, which caused difficulties for his family to visit him, the Qanater prison administration also decided to place him in a security cell with inmates with takfiri ideas, which poses a grave danger to his life.

In another context, the Maadi Misdemeanour Court decided to fine Rigo 1000 EGP in connection with Case No. 17318 of 2021 (Maadi Misdemeanour) on charges of bringing a mobile phone into his prison cell, and the Maadi Appeals Court decided to uphold the verdict of fining the defendant.

8 March 2022 

Yesterday, The Criminal Court (Second Terrorism Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Ahmed Maher Ezzat for 45 days, in connection with Case No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security.

It is noteworthy that Ezzat recently announced going on a hunger strike for being in pretrial detention for nearly two years, he was arrested in May 2020 from his workplace in connection with Case No. 586 of 2020 Supreme State Security, later on October of the same year the Criminal Court decided to release him, however, that decision wasn’t implemented, and yet he was rotated in connection with the current case. with charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news.

27 June 2021

Cairo Criminal Court (The Third Circuit Terrorism), had decided in its session held on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at the Institute of Police Secretaries in Tura, to renew the detention of “Ahmed Maher Ezzat” for 45 days pending Case No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security, with charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news.

It should be noted that “Ezzat” was arrested in May 2020 from his workplace, and he was detained pending Case No. 586 of 2020 Supreme State Security, and the Criminal Court had decided on October 4 of the same year to replace his pretrial detention with precautionary measures, however, that decision wasn’t implemented, nevertheless, he was recycled in the current case.

17 May 2021

to renew the detention of “Ahmed Maher Ezzat” for 45 days pending investigations, on the background of case No. 855 of 2020, Supreme state security, After filing accusations such as joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its aims, Using social media to commit the crime of spreading false news.

It should be noted that Ezzat was arrested in May 2020 from his workplace and held in pretrial detention into case No. 586 of 2020 Supreme state security, and the criminal court had decided in October 2020 to replace pretrial detention with precautionary measures, however, that decision wasn’t implemented, nevertheless, they decided to charge him into a new case of No. 855 of 2020.

The Cairo Criminal Court the “The Third Chamber of Terrorism” decided yesterday to renew the detention of “Ahmed Maher Ezzat” for 45 days pending investigations. In Case No. 855 of 2020 Supreme State Security, on charges of joining a terrorist group knowing its objectives and using an account on social media for the purpose of spreading false news.”
Ezzat was arrested on the 4 of May of last year, 2020 from his workplace, and he was investigated by the prosecution in Case No. 586 of 2020 Supreme State Security.
