Cairo Criminal Court (Second Terrorism Circuit) decided on 6 February to renew the detention of Moataz Bellah Hasab Elnaby for 45 days, pending investigations of lawsuit No. 965 of 2021 (Supreme State Security).

Hasab Elnaby completed two years in pretrial detention, which is the maximum period of pretrial detention according to the law. 24 May 2023 

On May 24, the Criminal Court (First Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Moataz Bellah Hasab Elnaby for 45 days, pending investigations of lawsuit No. 965 of 2021 (Supreme State Security).

Hasab Elnaby was arrested from a street on July 12, 2021, the following day; the prosecution interrogated him, on the next day with several Facebook posts published on an account attributed to him, despite Hasab Elnaby’s denial of the ownership of the account. The prosecution accused him of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purposes, spreading false news and information that would harm security, public order, and the interests of citizens, and using a social media account to spread false news and statements.

11 April 2023 “Criminal Court renews Moataz Bellah Hasab Elnaby’s detention for 45 days” 

On April 11, the Criminal Court (Second Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Moataz Bellah Hasab Elnaby for 45 days, pending investigations of case No. 965 of 2021 (Supreme State Security). 

Security forces arrested Hasab Elnaby on July 12, 2021, against the grounds of several posts published on a Facebook account attributed to him; despite the fact that Hasab Elnaby denied his ownership of the account. 

Hasab Elnaby is accused of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purposes, spreading false news and information that would harm security, public order, and the interests of citizens, and using a social media account to spread false news and statements.

13 April 2022

Yesterday, the Criminal Court (Third Terrorism Circuit) decided to renew the detention of Moataz Bellah Hasab Elnaby for 45 days in connection with lawsuit No. 965 of 2021 (Supreme State Security).

Hasab-Elnaby was arrested last July; the following day, he appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution pending the lawsuit. The Prosecution confronted him with several printed Facebook Posts from an account attributed to him; he denied his ownership of the account and the published posts.

Hasab-Elnaby is charged with joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purposes, spreading false news and statements that would harm security, public order, and the interests of citizens, and using a social media account to spread false news and statements.
