Supreme State Security Prosecution

The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to renew the detention of  Mahmoud Gamal Abo Sree, for 15 days pending investigations of lawsuit No. 508 of 2023 (Supreme State Security).

Security forces arrested Abo Sree On December 19, 2023, from Borg ElArab Airport while returning from abroad to spend a vacation with his family; he was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on December 20, 2023, and was charged with joining a terrorist group while knowing its purposes, and publishing and broadcasting false news and information that would harm security and public order—and using an account on international information networks for publishing and posting false news and information.

It is also worth noting that he was not confronted with any seizures, nor was he confronted with any news or publications concerning him.

 

3 April 2024 session

Criminal Court

The Criminal Court (Third Circuit) renewed the detention of Amir Sayed Mohamed and Reyad Mohamed Abdel Rahaman for 45 days, pending investigations of lawsuit No. 744 of 2023 (Supreme State Security).

Although Amir and Reyad are Zamalek football club fans, the prosecution accused them of joining a terrorist group, Ultras Ahlawy, and spreading false news and information that would harm public security and order.

Security forces arrested Amir and Reyad on May 3 from the DownTown district in Cairo, and security forces detained them without legal basis and in an unknown location for eight days before presenting them before the prosecution.

 

4 April 2024 session

Supreme State Security Prosecution

  • The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to detain Ahmed Abdel Karim Mohamed Ahmed, for 15 days, pending investigations in Case No. 1277 of 2024,Supreme State Security, on charges of participating in a terrorist group and participating in a gathering.

Ahmed, 27 years old, had traveled from his home in Hurghada Governorate the day before to participate in the protest against the war on Gaza, which was organized on the stairs of the Journalists Syndicate, and he was arrested from a checkpoint in Ras Gharib in Hurghada Governorate, during his return home.

  • The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to detain Mustafa Ahmed Ramadan for 15 days pending investigations in Digital Case No. 1277 of 2024, Supreme State Security, because of his participation in the solidarity stand with the Palestinian cause on the stairs of the Journalists Syndicate on 3 April.

 

The prosecution charged Mustafa with participating in a terrorist group in achieving its goals, and publishing and broadcasting false news and statements, in order to harm security and public order.

 

Mustafa was arrested at dawn on 4 April 2024 from his home after a police force went to his home during his absence, and he returned home after a phone call from his father.

 

It is worth mentioning that the prosecution confronted Mustafa with pictures on his mobile phone, which were taken of him while he was participating in the protest, and Mustafa admitted that he owned the phone.

6 April 2024 session

Criminal Court

The Criminal Court (First Circuit) renewed the detention of the assistant professor of political science at the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science at Alexandria University, Ahmed AlTohamy, for 45 days, pending investigations of lawsuit No. 649 of 2020 (Supreme State Security Prosecution).

Al-Tohamy was arrested on June 3, 2020, and remained under enforced disappearance at a National Security headquarters in Cairo for 17 days. The Prosecution’s investigations with Al-Tohamy focused on the accusations of collaborating with the Egyptian activist Mohamed Sultan, residing in the United States, in the case Sultan filed against the former Prime Minister Hazem Al-Beblawy. Al-Tohamy denied these accusations before the Prosecution and stated that his security targeting was due to his academic research on the Arab Spring revolutions.

The prosecution accused Al-Tohamy of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media.
