The fact-finding commission established by the Advisory Board of Trustees of the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE), composed of Farida ElKalagy, Michael Raouf, and Salma Al-Naqqash, has launched its mission. This comes after it has finished establishing the rules and regulations of its work and reviewing the terms of reference issued by the Advisory Board. The members of the commission have a diverse background and relevant experiences in gender related issues, the work of civil society in addition to legal and administrative expertise. The committee hopes to finish the assigned task by the end of August 2020.
We, the members of the committee, hope that all concerned parties cooperate in achieving our objective, which is to improve the current work environment within the association in general by adopting more comprehensive and fair policies in dealing with the various forms of violations and abuses aiming to limit its occurrence and ensuring the creation of a gender sensitive work environment. The commission will also investigate and look into incidents and complaints related to violence against women and men and administrative violations; as well as announce its decisions, results and recommendations to present them to the Advisory Board of Trustees of AFTE for the Board to impose the penalties decided and to work on the proposed recommendations.
The commission shall be bound by the utmost confidentiality and privacy that protect complainants from circulating information about them or their complaints, unless they wish otherwise, according to the rules and regulations of the commission that were shared with the concerned parties.
