The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to renew the detention of Mostafa Ahmed Ramadan Tawfiq for 15 days pending investigations in case No. 945 of 2026 (State Security Prosecution), in which Tawfiq is convicted in connection with posts and a Facebook page attributed to him, though he denies any link to the posts or the page responsible for publishing them.

Since his arrest, Tawfiq has shown several serious physical symptoms suggesting an illness, and he has faced significant obstruction from the medical center affiliated with the Reform and Rehabilitation Center in implementing the prosecution’s orders to have him examined by a specialist doctor.

Tawfiq was arrested on February 26, 2026, and remained unlawfully detained for two days before being brought before the investigative authorities. He was charged with joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purposes, publishing and broadcasting false news and statements that could harm public security and order, and using an online account for the purpose of committing the crime of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements.

19 April 2026

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Mostafa Ahmed Ramadan Tawfiq for 15 days pending investigations in Case No. 945 of 2026 (Supreme State Security). During the session, he was asked whether the decision to transfer him to a hospital had been implemented; he replied that it had not. His defense requested to open an investigation with the head of the 10th of Ramadan Correctional and Rehabilitation Center for repeatedly failing to execute prosecution orders to transfer Tawfiq to the medical unit, which could endanger his life.

Tawfiq, who’s suspected of having bladder cancer and was undergoing treatment, was arrested on February 26, 2026, at his home. Since his first hearing, he has requested to be transferred to a hospital for urgent treatment, but the order has not been carried out to date. He later complained during another hearing that a decision to place him under 24-hour medical observation was also ignored, despite his deteriorating health and serious symptoms, including blood in urine and stool, skin rashes, and the prison administration’s refusal to grant him the prescribed medication that his family delivered.

During this month, AFTE submitted an electronic petition to the Public Prosecutor requesting to open an urgent investigation into the violations committed by the 10th of Ramadan Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, and to immediately transfer Tawfiq to the medical unit of the center or to a university hospital to receive appropriate treatment, and urging his release under any guarantee deemed suitable by the court, or replacing his pretrial detention with one of the precautionary measures stipulated in the law, given the danger his continued detention poses to his life, and to enable him to receive treatment outside prison.

9 April 2026 “AFTE submits Petition to the Public Prosecutor Calling for Release of Detainee Suspected of Having Bladder Cancer.”

On April 9, 2026, the legal team of the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE), acting on behalf of its client, Mostafa Ahmed Ramadan Tawfiq, submitted an electronic petition, registered under No. 1645786/2026 (Petitions – Technical Office of the Public Prosecutor), to report the 10th of Ramadan Correctional and Rehabilitation Center’s negligence in implementing the Supreme State Security Prosecution’s decisions and in providing necessary medical care for Tawfiq.

The petition explained that Tawfiq, who’s suspected of having bladder cancer and was undergoing treatment, was arrested on February 26, 2026, at his home.

The petition concluded with two main requests:

1-  to open an urgent investigation into the violations committed by the 10th of Ramadan Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, and to immediately transfer Tawfiq to the medical unit of the center or to a university hospital to receive appropriate treatment.
2- His release under any guarantee deemed suitable by the court, or replacing his pretrial detention with one of the precautionary measures stipulated in the law, given the danger his continued detention poses to his life, and to enable him to receive treatment outside prison.

5 April 2026 “Prosecution Ignores Mostafa Ramadan’s Request for Medical Care and Renews his Detention for 15 Days; Defense Holds Prison Accountable for his Poor Health Conditions”

On April 5, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Mostafa Ahmed Ramadan Tawfiq for 15 days pending investigations in lawsuit No. 945 of 2026 (Supreme State Security). For the third time, the prison administration ignored the prosecution’s decision to refer him to the prison hospital for necessary medical treatment.

During the hearing, Ramadan complained about his deteriorating health condition due to the prison’s refusal to grant him his prescribed medication. Although his family had delivered the appropriate medication to the Correction and Rehabilitation Center in 10th of Ramadan City, where he’s detained, the prison administration refused to hand it over to him up to the date of the hearing. His defense requested an investigation into the reasons for the refusal to implement the prosecution’s decision and held the prison administration accountable for any harm that might befall him due to medical neglect. Notably, he had previously been examined at the prison hospital before the Eid al-Fitr holiday, where the doctor recommended placing him under medical observation for 24 hours, but this recommendation was ignored.

Ramadan was arrested on February 26, 2026, from his house and taken to an unknown location. He remained unlawfully detained until appearing two days later before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, which confronted him with a Facebook post. Ramadan denied any connection to the post or the page that published it.

He faces charges of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purposes, publishing and broadcasting false news and statements that could harm security and public order, and using an online account to commit the crime of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements.
