Renad Emad, is a student at Helwan University. She is active on TikTok and Instagram, where she posts dance videos and “karaoke” songs. She has 970,000 followers on TikTok, 700,000 followers on her personal account on Instagram, and 1.5 million followers on her public account on Instagram.
On 30 June 2020, a police force arrested Emad from a café in Dokki, Giza Governorate, on charges of posting indecent videos on TikTok, in Case No. 8762 of 2020.
The Public Prosecution charged her with infringing on family values and principles, creating social media accounts with the aim of human trafficking by exploiting her younger sister in her videos to achieve high viewership, and posting indecent videos.
Emad was released in the last quarter of 2020, but we could not know the exact date of her release.
On 4 March 2021, the first session of Emad’s trial took place.
On June 8, 2021, the Cairo Economic Misdemeanor Court sentenced Emad to 3 years in prison and fined her 100,000 LE.
Sessions of appeal against the ruling of the Cairo Economic Misdemeanor Court, which sentenced Renad Emad to 3 years in prison and ordered her to pay a fine of 100,000 pounds, have started. On 12 July 2021, the Cairo Economic Court of Appeal ordered the release of Emad on a bail of 20,000 pounds.
On 7 February 2022, the Giza Economic Court of Appeals accepted Emad’s appeal against the sentence issued against her, revoked the prison sentence, and upheld the 100,000-pound fine.
