The Cairo Criminal Court, Second Criminal Circuit of Badr City, held at the Badr Appeal Office in the security complex, adjourned the trial of Ahmed Mahrous Ali Meligy (41 years old – driver) in case No. 18599 of 2024 (Nasr City, Criminal Court), registered under No. 3010 of 2024 (New Cairo Prosecution) and No. 238 of 2021 (State Security Prosecution), to 30 September 2026 to include seized materials in the case.
During the session, the first prosecution witness attended the session, he testified, and was questioned by the court and defense. As also the previous hearings had seen multiple adjournments: hearing of 25 April 2026 was postponed due to a public holiday. And of 24 January 2026 was adjourned to hear witnesses bsed on the defense’s request. Hearing of 28 October 2025 adjourned due to defendants’ absence. And 11 August 2025 marked the first session, with the referral order read and defendants denying charges.
It is noted that Meligy had surrendered himself to the National Security office in Suez in September 2019 after being summoned by phone. He was detained in case No. 1338 of 2019, known publicly as the September 20 protests case, until the Criminal Court ordered his release in November 2020. However, he remained unlawfully detained and was later referred to the Suez Prosecution in December 2020, which again ordered his release.
Despite this, he continued to be detained until presented to the Supreme State Security Prosecution in February 2021 in case No. 238 of 2021, where he was charged with joining a terrorist organization. He denied the charges but remained in pretrial detention until formally referred to criminal trial on 1 December 2024, with the trail beginning on 11 August 2025.
