The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of radio and television presenter Talal Mohamed Abdel‑Aal Seif, pending investigations in case No. 5211 of 2026 (State Security Prosecution).
Security forces had arrested Abdel‑Aal on 14 July 2026 from a coffee shop in Samannoud, Dakahlia Governorate, and held him unlawfully until he was presented to the prosecution on 18 July. He was charged with publishing and broadcasting false news harmful to public security and order, and using an electronic account to disseminate such news.
His arrest followed the broadcast of a video in which he criticized the Egypt Post for refusing to accept a letter addressed to Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al‑Qasimi, commenting on his novel Al‑Khanjar Al‑Marhoon (The Pledged Dagger), along with another book.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution, in its session on 10 August 2026, ordered the continued detention of regional radio and television presenter and member of the Egyptian Writers’ Union Talal Mohamed Abdel Aal Seif, pending investigations in case No. 5211 of 2026 (Supreme State Security). In which he is accused of broadcasting false news harmful to public order and security, as well as using an online account to disseminate such content.
Security forces arrested Abdel Aal on 14 July 2026 from a café in Samannoud, Dakahlia Governorate, and held him for 4 days before presenting him to the prosecution.
The case stems from a video he published criticizing the Egyptian Postal Authority’s refusal to accept a letter addressed to Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al‑Qasimi regarding his novel The Pawned Dagger, along with another book. The prosecution considered this video grounds for the charges brought against him.
