27 July 2026

The Supreme State Security Prosecution, in its session held on 27 July 2026, renewed the detention of radio and television presenter Talal Mohamed Abdel‑Aal Seif, pending investigations in case No. 5211 of 2026 (State Security Prosecution).

Security forces had arrested Abdel‑Aal on 14 July 2026 from a coffee shop in Samannoud, Dakahlia Governorate, and held him unlawfully until he was presented to the prosecution on 18 July. He was charged with publishing and broadcasting false news harmful to public security and order, and using an electronic account to disseminate such news.

His arrest followed the broadcast of a video in which he criticized the Egypt Post for refusing to accept a letter addressed to Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al‑Qasimi, commenting on his novel Al‑Khanjar Al‑Marhoon (The Pledged Dagger), along with another book.
