The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Abdullah Omar, an Al-Azhar student at the Faculty of Agriculture, for 15 days pending investigation in Case No. 4488 of 2026 (Supreme State Security Case).

Security forces arrested the student from his home on 18 May of the current year. He was also detained without a legal basis for nearly four months. According to the investigation records, his arrest was likely related to his joining a group on the Discord platform, despite his lack of interaction with the group’s content. He reportedly attributed his joining the group to curiosity and a desire to explore.

The student faces charges of joining a terrorist group while knowing its objectives; committing an offense involving the financing of a terrorist group; spreading false news and statements that could undermine security and public order; and using an online account to publish and spread false news and statements that could undermine security and public order.
