The Cairo Criminal Court convened at the Badr Correction and Rehabilitation Center court complex, decided to adjourn the proceedings in the trial of photojournalist Karim Hamdy Salem to July 4, 2026, in Case No. 19857 of 2024, Nasr City First District Felonies, registered under No. 3405 of 2024 New Cairo Total, No. 570 of 2020 State Security Prosecution (Supreme State Security), and No. 1018 of 2024 State Security Felonies (Supreme State Security).
The court’s decision to adjourn the hearing came to allow the Public Prosecution to fulfill defense requests for certificates regarding previous cases in which their clients had been accused. Karim Hamdi Salem, a photographer at “DMC” channel, faces charges of joining and financing a terrorist organization.

The Cairo Criminal Court (First Circuit Terrorism), convened at the Badr Correction and Rehabilitation Center court complex, decided to adjourn the proceedings in the trial of photojournalist Karim Hamdy Salem to April 21, 2026, in Case No. 19857 of 2024, Nasr City First District Felonies, registered under No. 3405 of 2024 New Cairo Total, No. 570 of 2020 State Security Prosecution (Supreme State Security), and No. 1018 of 2024 State Security Felonies (Supreme State Security), to continue trial procedures and examine the seized evidence in the case.
During the latest hearing, the court heard the remaining prosecution witnesses from National Security Sector officers involved in the arrest procedures, and also listened to the prosecution’s closing arguments. In previous sessions, the court had heard testimony from officers who conducted investigations and carried out the arrest and search procedures against the defendants.
Karim Hamdy Salem, a photographer at DMC TV channel, faces charges of joining a terrorist group and financing it. Notably, on September 8, 2024, the Criminal Court (First Circuit – Terrorism) had ordered the renewal of Salem’s detention for 45 days pending investigations in the same case, after he had spent nearly five years in pretrial detention.

The Cairo Criminal Court, First Terrorism Circuit held a session to hear the trial of photojournalist Karim Hamdy Salem, during the session, the court listened to prosecution witnesses from the National Security Sector, who conducted the investigations and handled the procedures for arresting and searching the defendants in the case. The court decided to postpone the continuation of the trial to 15 February 2026.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution has decided to refer Case No. 570 of 2020 to a substantive trial, without setting a date for the hearing yet.
