The Cairo Criminal Court of Appeal, First Circuit (Badr Criminal Appeals), decided to adjourn the appeal filed by Mohamed Mahmoud Amer against the verdict issued against him in case No. 1633 of 2026 (Haram Criminal Appeals), registered under No. 1984 of 2021 (Supreme State Security), to July 13, 2026. The postponement was made to hear the defense’s pleadings and to authorize Amer’s defense to obtain the documents requested during the session.

The case dates back to October 2021, when Amer was arrested based on a National Security investigation report accusing him of participating in a media campaign for the Muslim Brotherhood. In January 2025, after nearly four years in pretrial detention, the Supreme State Security Prosecution referred him to criminal trial on charges of joining a terrorist organization with knowledge of its purposes and methods.

Trial proceedings began before the Badr Criminal Court in June 2025, where the defendants denied the charges. The court heard prosecution witnesses as well as arguments from both the prosecution and defense, before issuing its verdict in December 2025: ten years of rigorous imprisonment, mandatory participation in five years of ideological rehabilitation programs following the sentence, five years of police probation after release, and inclusion of Amer and others on terrorism lists.
