Criminal Court Renews Mahmoud Sanousy’s Detention for 45 Days Despite Being Unable to Attend the Hearing

The Cairo Criminal Court (Second Terrorism Circuit) renewed the detention of Mahmoud Mostafa Sanousy Abdel Aal, a worker at the Egyptian Railway Authority, for 45 days pending investigations in Case No. 4880 of 2025. This decision was issued notwithstanding technical difficulties that prevented his connection from detention to attend the detention renewal hearing via videoconference.

Sanousy, aged 52, was arrested on 20 October 2025 and interrogated on 27 October 2025. He faces charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to renew the detention of Mahmoud Mostafa Sanousy Abdel Aal for 15 days pending investigation in Lawsuit No. 4880 of 2025, in which he is accused of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news.

The defendant, 52 years old, works at the Egyptian Railway Authority in Minya Governorate. He was arrested on 20 October 2025 and questioned on 27 October 2025.
