On April 15, the Cairo Criminal Court (Second Criminal Circuit in Badr City) postponed the trial of defendant Mohamed Selim Ibrahim Selim, who’s convicted in Case No. 13673 of 2024 (Fifth Settlement Criminal Court), registered under No. 2992 of 2024 (New Cairo Criminal Court) and No. 330 of 2022 (Supreme State Security), to June 9, 2026, to continue hearing and cross-examining prosecution witnesses.
During the April 15 hearing, the court heard the first witness in the case. At the previous hearing on January 28, the court reviewed the referral order, with the defendant denying the charges and the defense requesting to hear witnesses. The October 27, 2025, hearing was postponed due to security-related difficulties in transferring some defendants from detention.
It is noted that the 37-year-old tuk-tuk driver, Mohamed Selim, was arrested on March 23, 2022, from his home in Ismailia Governorate. He remained in unlawful detention until May 8, 2022, when he was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution. He was charged with joining a terrorist group, broadcasting false news and statements that could disturb public order and harm national interests, and inciting the commission of a terrorist crime both directly and indirectly.
After repeated extensions of his detention, he was referred to trial on December 7, 2025, facing charges of joining a terrorist group and deliberately spreading false news about the country’s internal situation through his social media accounts. His first trial session before the Badr Criminal Court was held in October 2025.
