Haneen Hossam’s retrial adjourned to March 22, Manar Al-Tantawi’s appeal adjourned for legal opinion, and the appeal of Emad El-Sayed Ali Radwan against his detention order dismissed

Criminal Courts

On February 21, the Criminal Court (Circuit 15 South Cairo) decided to adjourn the trial session of Haneen Hossam in connection with Case No. 4917 of 2020 (Sahel Felonies), restricted to No. 2106 of 2020 (North Cairo), known in the media as the human trafficking case, to next March 22 session as Hossam’s defense shall submit documents to the Court.

In the session, at the request of Hossam’s defense in the previous session, the Court heard the statements of the witnesses, Malak Mohammad, Habiba Essam, Nada Khaled, and Sara, the girls that Hossam contacted on WhatsApp to work with her at Likee App. in which the Public Prosecution considered as human trafficking and commercial exploitation of children  – According to the Public Prosecution – this implicitly incited immortality, temptation, and prostitution, through video conversations and establishing friendships intending to obtain financial benefits.

Hossam’s retrial procedures are underway regarding the verdict in absentia issued against the defendant on June 21, by the Cairo Criminal Court, with ten years imprisonment and a fine of 200,000 pounds, following by Article (395) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Which gives those convicted in absentia the validity to request a retrial before the penalty is extinguished by the lapse of time.

State Council Courts

On February 21, the State Commissioners Authority (The 17th Circuit) decided to adjourn appeal No. 61520 of 75 filed by AFTE and ANHRI gainst both The Minister of Higher Education and the Dean of the Higher Technological Institute in the 10th of Ramadan City, on behalf of Dr. Manar Al-Tantawy challenging the negative decision not to grant her the professorship despite fulfilling all the technical and procedural conditions.

the State Commissioners Authority’s decision to withhold the appeal came to decide its legal opinion that should be considered before the competent court.

Earlier, , The Disciplinary Board of the Teaching Staff at the Higher Technological Institute in the 10th of Ramadan City decided to adjourn the disciplinary hearing of Al-Tantawi to the following March 16 session.

District Courts

On February 24, Al-Darb Al-Ahmar Appeal Misdemeanors Court decided to dismiss the appeal filed by the defense panel of Emad El-Sayed Ali Radwan, and upheld the decision issued by Qasr Al-Nil opposition judge to detain him for 15 days, into investigations of Case No. 599 of 2020 (Qasr Al-Nil Misdemeanors).

Police forces arrested Radwan from Tahrir Square on January 28, 2022, to appear the next day before Qasr Al-Nil Prosecution, accused of the aforementioned case. Radwan faces charges of promoting a terrorist act through social networks.
