Yesterday, the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE) organized a workshop on the circulation of information law at its headquarters in Cairo. During the workshop, the association reviewed an initial draft of the information circulation law prepared by its work team. After that, the association recorded the observations and suggestions of the attendees, including members of the House of Representatives and Senate, journalists, and jurists.
The list of participants in the workshop included: George Isaac, a member of the National Council for Human Rights, He was represented in the workshop by Negad El Borai, a human rights lawyer,and a member of the National Dialogue Board of Trustees, Ahmed Ragheb, a human rights lawyer, and the assistant rapporteur of the Human Rights and Public Freedoms Committee in the National Dialogue, Tarek El Khouly, member of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Egyptian House of Representatives, Mohammad Farid, deputy of the Social Solidarity Committee & Human Rights in the Egyptian Senate, Hossam Bahgat, Executive Director of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights; Maha Abdel Nasser, Member of Parliament for the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, Mohamed Saad Abdel Hafeez, Member In the Council of the Journalists Syndicate, Osama Badie, Secretary of the Parliamentary Body of the Reform and Development Party, Maged El-Feki, Coordinator of the Human Rights Forum in the Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians, Ahmed Makled, Secretary of the Arab Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Undersecretary of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, and Karim Abdel Ati, the media spokesperson for the Coordination Committee and a member of the Conservative Party. In addition to Iman Talaat and Ahmed Mubarak, members of the Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians.
Present on behalf of the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression were: Mohammad Abdel Salam, Executive Director of the Association; Fatma Serag, Director of the Legal Aid Unit; Dina Selim, Director of the Law Research Unit; Sara Ramadan, Researcher at the Law Research Unit, and Ahmed Othman, Lawyer at the Legal Aid Unit.
The Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression continues to coordinate and discuss with all stakeholders to finalize the draft law on the circulation of information at an appropriate time and then urge members of the House of Representatives to adopt it and submit it for discussion in the House.
