For the Sixth Time, Detention of Pharmacist Sari Shaaban Renewed Over Terrorism and False News Charges

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of pharmacist Sari Shaaban Mahmoud for 15 days pending investigations in case No. 2118 of 2026 (Supreme State Security).

Shaaban was included in the case over posts on his personal Facebook page criticizing rising prices and living conditions, as well as posts related to events in Gaza. He was arrested on 25 March 2026 and held unlawfully in an undisclosed location until 29 March, when he was presented to the prosecution. He faces charges of publishing and broadcasting false news harmful to public security and order, using a Facebook account to disseminate such news, and promoting ideas of a terrorist organization.

2 June 2026

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of pharmacist Sari Shaaban, for the fifth time, pending investigations in case No. 2118 of 2026 (Supreme State Security), in which Shabaan is convicted over Facebook posts. 

Shabaan was arrested from his house on March 25, 2026, and was unlawfully detained for four days before being brought before the investigations authority, which faced him with posts from his personal Facebook account complaining about living conditions, particularly the price hikes, and as well as other posts addressing the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip. Based on this, the prosecution ordered his detention and included him in the aforementioned case. It also charged him with publishing and broadcasting false news and statements harmful to public security and order, using a Facebook account to disseminate such content, and promoting the ideas of a terrorist organization.

18 May 2026

Today, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of pharmacist Sari Shaaban Mahmoud for 15 days pending investigations in case No. 2118 of 2026 (Supreme State Security). In which he is accused of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements harmful to public security and order, using a Facebook account to disseminate such content, and promoting the ideas of a terrorist organization.

Security forces arrested Shaaban on March 25 over posts on his personal page discussing price hikes and living conditions, as well as others addressing the situation in Gaza. He was held unlawfully in an undisclosed location until he appeared before the prosecution on March 29.

Yesterday, the Supreme State Security Prosecution decided to renew the detention of pharmacist Sari Shaaban Mahmoud for 15 days pending investigations in lawsuit No. 2118 of 2026 (Supreme State Security).

Security forces had arrested Shaaban from his home on March 25, 2026, and held him unlawfully in an undisclosed location until he appeared before the prosecution on March 29. He faces charges of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements harmful to public security and order, using a Facebook account to disseminate such content, and promoting the ideas of a terrorist organization.

The prosecution confronted him during the interrogation with several posts on his personal Facebook page discussing price hikes and living conditions, as well as others addressing the situation in Gaza. 


20 April 2026

The Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of pharmacist Sari Shaaban Mahmoud for 15 days pending investigations in lawsuit No. 2118 of 2026 (Supreme State Security), in which he’s accused for writing several posts on his personal Facebook profile discussing price hikes and living conditions, and addressing the situation in Gaza.

Shaaban was arrested from his home on March 25, 2026, and held unlawfully in an undisclosed location until he appeared before the prosecution on March 29. He faces charges of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements harmful to public security and order, using a Facebook account to disseminate such content, and promoting the ideas of a terrorist organization.


6 April 2026

On April 6, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of pharmacist Sari Shaaban Mahmoud for 15 days pending investigations in lawsuit No. 2118 of 2026 (Supreme State Security).
