Reports
AFTE has published its first quarterly report on the state of freedom of expression in Egypt (from January 1 to March 30, 2024). It focuses on the freedom of the press and media, artistic and creative expression, digital expression, academic freedom, and student rights. More.
Advocacy
AFTE and 27 other organizations have issued a joint statement supporting the letter by five UN Special Rapporteurs, published on 19 May 2024, addressing the Egyptian government regarding the ongoing targeting of human rights lawyers through the use of counter-terrorism legislation, resulting in their imprisonment or compelling them to stop their human rights activities. AFTE published a fact Sheet about the blogger and journalist Mohamed Ibrahim Radwan, aka Mohamed Oxygen, who has been serving a four-year prison sentence issued by the Emergency State Security Court in Case No. 1228 of 2021 (Emergency State Security Misdemeanor – Fifth Settlement), has been subjected to continuous abuse since his arrest in 2018.
