Ahmed Mostafa Ahmed Serag “Ahmed Serag”

Date of Arrest: January 15, 2025
Legal Status: In pretrial detention
Case Number: Case No. 7 of 2025 (State Security Prosecution)

On January 15, 2025, plainclothes police officers arrested journalist Ahmed Mostafa Ahmed Serag, known as “Ahmed Serag,” from his workplace at the King Fahd Complex School in Nasr City without informing him of the reasons for his arrest.
The following day, January 16, Serag appeared before the State Security Prosecution in Fifth Settlement. He was charged in Case No. 7 of 2025 with accusations that include joining a terrorist organization, committing a terrorism financing crime, publishing false news and statements, and using an electronic platform to promote terrorist activity.

Serag’s arrest came after conducting a journalistic interview on the Zat Masr website with Nada Mougheeth, the wife of detained cartoonist Ashraf Omar. During the interview, Mougheeth accused the forces who arrested her husband of seizing a sum of money from their savings without fully documenting it among the case exhibits.
It is worth noting that Mougheeth was investigated at the same time as Serag. Two individuals summoned her on the same day, January 16, when they were both presented to the prosecution. However, the prosecution decided to release her.

Serag is a journalist working with the Zat Masr website, known in recent years for conducting video interviews with opposition figures and individuals critical of government policies across various sectors.
