Implementation of the decision to release Quranist blogger Reda Abdel-Rahman after a year and a half of pretrial detention

Today, Kafr Saqr Police Station decided to execute the decision issued by the Zagazig Criminal Court (the Council Chamber) last Wednesday to release Quranist blogger Reda Abdel-Rahman, in connection with Case No. 3418 of 2020 (State Security Emergency Misdemeanour).

The decision to release Abdel-Rahman comes after nearly a year and a half of pretrial detention. He was arrested on August 22, 2020, against the backdrop of expressing his Qurani beliefs. He faced charges, most notably joining the terrorist group ISIS, Adapting and promoting Takfiri ideas.

10 January 2022 

Yesterday, Zagazig Criminal Court (The Council Chamber) decided to renew the detention of Quranist blogger Reda Abdel Rahman Ali for 45 days.

This decision comes in connection with Case No. 3418 of 2020 (State Security Emergency Misdemeanour), in which Abdel-Rahman is charged with several accusations, most notably joining the terrorist group ISIS, Adapting and promoting Takfiri ideas.

While integrating, Abdel-Rahman denied all charges against him after his arrest on August 22, 2020, from his house, against the backdrop of expressing his Qurani religious beliefs.

5 January 2022

On Wednesday, January 5, Zagazig Criminal Court decided to dismiss the appeal filed by Quranist blogger’s Reda Abdel-Rahman defense against the decision issued previously by the Criminal Court to renew his detention for 45 days.

This came in connection with Case No. 3418 of 2020 (State Security Emergency Misdemeanour), in which Abdel Rahman is charged with several accusations, most notably joining the terrorist group ISIS, Adapting and promoting Takfiri ideas through the organizational papers that were seized at his house while arresting him on August 22, 2020.

27 November 2021 

Last Saturday, Zagazig Criminal Court (The Council Chamber) decided to renew the detention of Quranist blogger Reda Abdel Rahman Ali for 45 days, in connection with Case No. 3418 of 2020 (State Security Emergency Misdemeanour).

Abdel Rahman is charged with several accusations, most notably joining the terrorist group ISIS, Adapting and promoting Takfiri ideas through the organizational papers that were seized at his house.

Reda Abdel-Rahman denied all charges against him. He confirmed that he actually was arrested on the 22nd of August 2020 from his house. He stated that the police force that arrested him, including a policeman he knows, didn’t search his house but only seized his mobile phone. he stated in the investigation report that he was detained throughout the period of his disappearance in the Police Department of Kafr Saqr.

10 November 2021 

On November 10, Zagazig Criminal Court (The Council Chamber) dismissed the appeal of Quranist blogger Reda Abdel Rahman Ali, and to uphold his pretrial detention order for 45 days, this came in connection with Case No. 3418 of 2020 (State Security Emergency Misdemeanour).

Security forces arrested Abdel Rahman from his house on August 22, 2020, based on an arrest warrant by the National Security’s investigations to bring and seize him, one month later he appeared before the prosecution in connection with the current case. On charges of joining the terrorist group ISIS, Adapting and spreading Takfiri ideas through the organizational papers found at his house.

12 October 2021

Today, Zagazig Criminal Court (The Council Chamber) considered the detention order of Quranist blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman” and ordered to extend it for 45 days. This came pending Case No. 3418 of 2020 (State Security Emergency Misdemeanour).

On August 22, 2020, “Abdel-Rahman” was arrested from his house, based on an arrest warrant by the National Security’s investigations to bring and seize him. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for over a month. In October of the same year, he was presented before the prosecution because he expressed his religious beliefs and belonging to the Quranist school of thought.

The investigations charged him with several accusations, most notably joining the terrorist group ISIS, Adapting and spreading Takfiri ideas through the organizational papers found at his house, and his blog entitled ” Justice Freedom & Peace.”

5 September 2021

Yesterday, Zagazig Criminal Court had dismissed the appeal filed by the attorney of the Quranist blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman”, the court ordered to detain him for 45 days pending investigations of Case No. No. 3418 of 2020 State Security Emergency Misdemeanour.

“Abdel-Rahman” was subjected to a long series of violations, the most recent of which was when he was arrested on last August 22, 2020, from his house, after an arrest warrant was issued against him, based on the National Security’s investigations. His phone was confiscated, then he disappeared for more than a month. Abdel-Rahman proved in the investigation report that he was detained throughout his disappearance at Kafr Saqr police station before he was brought before the prosecution in October of the same year.

29 August 2021

The Council Chamber of Zagazig Criminal Court, considered the detention order of Quranist blogger “Reda Abdel Rahman Ali”, and ordered to renew his detention for 45 extra days, this came pending Case No. 3418 of 2020 State Security Emergency Misdemeanour, The mentioned court considered the order to renew the defendant’s detention on Sunday, August 29, 2021, in the presence of AFTE’s lawyer

“Reda” has been subjected to a series of violations that started with harassment at his workplace, included arrest and arbitrary detention, and ended with pressing baseless accusations against him. All this happened to him because he expressed his religious beliefs and his belonging to the Quranist school of thought, he was first arrested in 2008, the second time was in 2016, and currently, he’s been detained since August 21, 2020.

The First Circuit of Zagazig Criminal Court has decided, on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, to dismiss the appeal filed by the Quranist blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman”, and to renew his detention for 45 days pending Case No. 3418 of 2020, State Security Emergency Misdemeanour

 in which he’s charged with joining the terrorist group of ISIS, adopting terrorist and takfiri ideas, and promoting them indirectly through the papers that were seized in his house.

“Reda” was arrested on August 21, 2020, from his house after an arrest warrant was issued based on the National Security investigations.

31 May 2021

Zagazig Criminal Court had decided on yesterday’s session, May 31, 2021, to renew the detention of the Quranist blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman” for 45 days pending investigations in Case No. 3418 of 2020, State Security (Emergency) Misdemeanour.

The investigations charged him with joining the terrorist group of ISIS, Adapting and spreading Takfiri ideas, through the organizational papers that were found at his house, and his blog entitled ” Justice Freedom & Peace”.

Notably, He was arrested on August 21, 2020, from his house, after the issuance of an arrest warrant, based on the National Security’s investigations.

The fifth circuit (Criminal) in Zagazig, has decided at its meeting today, Wednesday 14 April 2021, to renew the detention of the Quranist Blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman Ali” for 45 days pending investigations in Case No. 3418 of 2020, Misdemeanours State Security Prosecution.

The blogger is facing charges including joining the terrorist group of ISIS, Adapting and spreading Takfiri ideas, through the organizational papers that were found at his house, and his blog entitled ” Justice Freedom & Peace”.
Notably, He was arrested on August 21, 2020, from his house, after the issuance of an arrest warrant, based on the National Security’s investigations, Also, AFTE published a report entitled “Forbidden Belief: Report on the Imprisonment of Quranist Blogger Reda Abdel-Rahman” and urged the Public Prosecutor, to release the Quranist Blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman” and close the case.

The Fourth Circuit held in the Zagazig Criminal Court has decided to dismiss the appeal filed by the Quranist blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman”, and to renew his detention for 45 days pending investigations in Case No. 3418 of 2020, State Security (Emergency) Misdemeanour, in which “Reda” is facing charges of joining the terrorist group of ISIS, adopting terrorist and takfir ideas, and promoting them indirectly through the papers that were seized in his house.

It is worth mentioning that the blogger was arrested from his house on August 21, 2020, after his arrest decision was issued based on the national security’s investigations.

The Zagazig Criminal Court decided to renew the detention of the Quranist Blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman Ali” for 45 days pending investigations in Case No. 3418 of 2020, Misdemeanours State Security Prosecution.
Reda Abdel-Rahman was accused of “joining the terrorist organization of ISIS, adopting terrorist ideas, and promoting takfir ideas in an indirect way via organizational papers found at his house”.
Reda was arrested on August 21, 2020, from his house, after the issuance of an arrest warrant for him, based on the National Security’s investigations.
AFTE published “Forbidden Belief: Report on the Imprisonment of Quranist Blogger Reda Abdel-Rahman” and called the Public Prosecutor, to release Quranist Blogger Reda Abdel-Rahman and close the case.

16 February 2021

On February 16, Kafr Saqr Prosecution to renew the detention of the Quranist Blogger “Reda Abdel-Rahman Ali” for 15 days pending investigations in Case No. 3418 of 2020, Misdemeanours State Security Prosecution.
Reda Abdel-Rahman was accused of “joining the terrorist organization of ISIS, adopting terrorist ideas, and promoting takfir ideas in an indirect way via organizational papers found at his house”.
Reda was arrested on August 21, 2020, from his house, after the issuance of an arrest warrant for him, based on the National Security’s investigations.
